Book Talk: February Uppercase Review

Sometimes life can be hard, but these days I've always had the middle of the month to look forward to. Who wouldn't be delighted to have a book box delivered to you after a couple difficult weeks? Bliss. This month is no exception because I loved this box and I think you will too. It's a really good one.

stickers & sherlock
This month's box was sponsored by Epic Reads so there are some pretty exciting goodies! The first of them is a laptop sticker that reads "I ❤ YA" from Epic Reads. Boy, is that my truth or what. I'm awful about stickers, though. Once it's stuck it's there forever and I don't know if that is the cause of my commitment issues of a byproduct of them. Maybe I can just frame it or something? Why do I make stickers so stressful!!!

The second item in this month's box came in a luxurious navy blue velvet pouch. At first glance it's just a key on a chain but upon closer inspection, you'll find a 221B engraved in the key. That's right. It's a Sherlock Holmes reference. I was unboxing this for my cousin on Snapchat and it was comical how long the chain was. It was like a magician pulling scarves out from his mouth.

vday card & peppermint tea
Since this was a Valentine's Day themed box, Epic Reads provided a Valentine card inspired by the featured book. "I'd share my books with you" is the sentiment written on the card and that is not something to be taken lightly. You know how easy it is to damage books? My babies will be staying right here by my side (😉) thank you very much. That being said, this card tells me something about the characters and the story we might be getting in this novel. I am very, very excited for it.

The final goody in this box was an ounce of NovelTea Tins' Pride and Peppermint tea. This is my second NovelTea Tins tea (the first was from my first ever Uppercase Box!) but I cannot attest to the quality since I was too afraid to try it. I try to keep the caffeine in my diet to a minimum and Earl Grey tea just didn't seem like the best way to accomplish that goal. This blend, however, is blessedly caffeine free! I will definitely be giving this one a try. It even comes with a matching bookmark complete with brewing instructions! Super adorable and it looks (and smells) like it'll be super delicious.

author-signed insert
I've saved the best for last, although you probably already know what the book is by now. By Your Side by Kasie West! In the second half of last year I got very into Kasie West and I don't see that trend slowing down anytime soon. On top of that, the main setting in this book is a library. Um, yes! That's really all I need to know. A combination like that is something I wouldn't pass up for anything (except maybe a Newsies revival... as much as it pains me to say, I would stop reading Kasie West forever if it meant a Newsies revival).

I actually have a really funny story about this unboxing. On my way home my school, I stopped by the library to pick up some holds that have been waiting for me all week. I was over the moon to have By Your Side in that little haul. Then I tore into this box and boy did I have a laugh. I couldn't believe my eyes. Getting the same book twice in one day? That is what I call fate.

I didn't realize it was crooked until
after I posted it. Whoops. (x)
I am so happy to be subscribed to Uppercase. I wish I could say they were paying me to say that. A couple things I have yet to mention is that this hardcover edition of By Your Side is actually an Uppercase exclusive! Having the book itself be an exclusive is very exciting, even if the corners got a little crushed in transit. The other thing is that this is the second time I've gotten a Kasie West book from Uppercase (jackpot!) and it's also the second time I've gotten a necklace from Uppercase. Both times the Kasie West book and the necklace came in the same box. This box feels very full circle for me and I'm loving it. Let me know what you think of this box in the comments below! Have you read any Kasie West? Are you excited for this book? I definitely cannot wait to get my hands on this book and my head in its story.

Talk to you soon!

xo, Yvette

  1. I guess I ought to start reading Kasie West. Unless there's a Newsies revival.

    1. Unfortunately I think we have some time before we get a Newsies revival. Read away!
