#hairoftheweek: Micro Braidback

Oftentimes I don't care much for trends. I don't detest them, but I just don't see any reason to follow them. Lately, I have been lacking inspiration and it's frustrating when nothing seems to work. In times like these it's trends that are my saving grace. I've seen this week's hairstyle around on people of all ages and I knew just by looking at it that it wouldn't give me much trouble.

The Process:

There were a lot of reason why I chose this hairstyle this week. The first reason would be because it's easy and I am still in that rut. I also have been catching up on the Descendants: Wicked World episodes I've missed and Evie's hairstyle inspired this look. On top of that, the marketing campaign for Descendants 2 is starting to kick off in preparation for its release this summer! I swear this blog post is not sponsored. That's not to say I would mind a sponsorship... Hey Disney, how you doin'? ;)

The Tutorial:

With some hair chalk and a curling iron I can see this hairstyle actually being used in a costume or Disneybound... I just gave myself an idea. 💡
(1) Brush your hair and part it in the middle.
(2) Pick up a small section right up at the front and braid it regularly, angled towards the back of your head. The size of the section is up to your discretion, depending on what look you want to go for.
(3) Repeat Step 2 on the other side. Try to make your braids as symmetrical as possible.
(4) Bring your two braids together where your part line ends and tie it together. Make sure you don't have any loose hairs caught in the elastic and release the elastics on the individual braids as well.
(5) Decide how much of the braids you want showing and pick up all the hair past that point.
(6) To make your life easier, bring the braids back over to the front of your head to get that chunk of hair cleanly out of the way.
(7) Keeping the top layer of hair out of the way, return the braids to their final position.
(8) Cover the braids with the rest of the hair and brush it to keep it looking sharp.

The Result:

1.20.16 micro braidback (x)
Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the baddest of them all? 😈 Don't forget to give it a like on Instagram if you haven't already!

The Verdict:

I've never seen this hairstyle worn with straight hair (always curled or waves from braids) but I don't like to use heat and my hair doesn't hold much shape if didn't happen via heat so straight hair it is. For all the times I've seen the Micro Braidback around, I didn't see or hear a name anywhere so I had to take matters into my own hands. It's a dream to wear and takes no time to do. Perfect for getting your hair out of your face and simple enough to go with any outfit for any occasion.

Shout out to Instagram filters for making my hair blue/black like Evie's! I was really trying to channel her character with this hairstyle and I think it worked out really well. Let me know what you think of this hairstyle in the comments below! Are you as pumped as I am for the new Descendants movie? As always, follow me on Instagram to stay up-to-date on all things #hairoftheweek and don't forget the person with the most first likes at the end of the season gets an extra vote for Fan Favorite!

Talk to you soon!

  1. I Googled Evie, and I can see the resemblance! I like how simple and minimal it is!

    1. This hairstyle in the Wicked World animated series is super pronounced and it never changes, unlike in the movies. I'm sure that blue filter helped the resemblance. ;)

  3. Disney should probably sponsor your entire life. I mean, it's only fair.
